Travelling to North Korea on a Ireland passport, you need a visa, arranged before you travel.

There is no ordinary visa application for North Korea; a licensed tour operator handles it instead. The paperwork runs through the tour operator's contact with North Korean authorities rather than any consulate you would visit yourself.

Tours generally start in Beijing, from where the group travels on together into North Korea. Backpacking or solo sightseeing inside the country is not an option once the group visa is issued.
