What you need to apply
- PassportValid for at least three months after the date you plan to leave New Zealand. Send the original or a certified copy.
- Passport-style photographOne acceptable photo if you apply online, two if you apply on paper.
- Application feePaid when you submit the application.
- Onward or return ticketA ticket onward from New Zealand, proof you have the money to buy one, or a sponsor's written agreement to pay for your departure.
- Proof of sufficient fundsAt least NZD 1,000 for each month of your stay, or NZD 400 a month if your accommodation is prepaid, shown by bank statements, credit card statements or bank drafts in your own name. If you are sponsored, your sponsor's recent bank statements, pay slips or employment agreement.
- Police certificateIf you are 17 or over and your total time in New Zealand will be 24 months or more: certificates from your country of citizenship and any country you have lived in for five years or more, issued less than six months ago.
- Medical examination or certificateGenerally only for stays longer than six months. A chest x-ray is required if you are staying six months or more and come from a country with a high rate of tuberculosis. Medical evidence must be less than three months old.
