Muscat International Airport (MCT): arrival & transit guide
What to expect landing at Muscat International Airport in Muscat, Oman: the arrival flow, transit rules, and onward transport.
Muscat International Airport operates as a single integrated terminal for both domestic and international traffic, connected internally so there is no separate building to find between the two. Arriving passengers follow signage into the international arrivals hall.
Oman runs an e-visa system that a wide range of nationalities are expected to use, applying and getting approval online before departure rather than at the airport; a separate, smaller group of nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival instead, and travelers eligible for that should check with their airline or Royal Oman Police before assuming it applies to them. Whichever route applies, the immigration desks and e-gates in the arrivals hall are the checkpoint either way, followed by baggage claim.
Oman does allow a genuine airside transit for a long-enough connection, generally around six hours or more, without formally entering the country: transferring passengers go through a security screening for hand luggage rather than full immigration, then proceed to the departure gate. A shorter connection, or one that requires collecting checked bags, follows the ordinary arrivals process instead.
Outside the terminal, taxis and pre-arranged transfers are the standard way into Muscat.
